HARTSVILLE — Newberry finished the Coker Cobra Women’s Golf Invitational tied for first place with Erskine, giving the Wolves their first tournament win of the last two seasons.

Newberry’s last title came in April 2016 at the Agnes McAmis Memorial. The Wolves shot a final round 306 to finish the tournament 40 strokes over par, their second-best score to par of the season after last weekend’s performance at the Pfeiffer Invitational in Hilton Head. Erskine was declared the team champion on a scorecard playoff due to a lower fifth score in Tuesday’s final round.

The Wolves had four individuals finish among the top 11, led by Nabila Inak and Taylor Lance landing in a tie for fifth. It marked Inak’s second consecutive top-five finish after she tied for fourth last week at the Pfeiffer Invitational. She finished the day at 76, four over par.

Lance hit par on 13 of the 18 holes concluding round two with a score of 78, going six over. Yesterday’s finish landed her in first place leading the charge for Newberry and the pace of the tournament. The tie for fifth is her second top five finish of the season.

Johana Lunackova rounded out the tournament in a tie for ninth place at 76 and ten strokes over par. For her second top ten finish this season, she wrapped up day two going four over and on par 15 times.

Aubrey Guyton broke free from yesterday’s tie for 15th and landed in another tie, but this time for the 11th spot. This ascent up the leaderboard for Guyton came off today’s four over par score at 76 eclipsing yesterday’s 80. The 76 ties her recently set career low from the Pfeiffer University Invitational last week.

Brette Bryant concluded the day with an 85, four strokes improved from her Round One score.

The Wolves finish first for first time since April 2016.
