McKenzie Barneycastle nominated for HERO Sports award

NEWBERRY — McKenzie Barneycastle has been nominated for the best freshman start to the 2018 D2 Softball season.

The freshman has started in 15 of the 24 games that the Wolves have played so far. On the young season Barneycastle bats a .523, has 16 runs, 23 hits, eight doubles, and six RBIs on 44 at bats.

Newberry is currently on a seven-game winning streak with six of those wins coming in the past week against Converse, Augusta, and Southern Wesleyan. Barneycastle through those six wins appeared in the batter’s box 18 times, posted eight runs, 10 hits, two RBIs, and five doubles.
