Trip to Hilton Head concludes with Wolves’ win

HILTON HEAD – Newberry completed their stint at Hilton Head with a 7-2 win over Tiffin Thursday afternoon.

The Wolves went 3-1 during the week in Hilton Head. Their only loss came against Ferris State, 8-1, on Tuesday.

Edison Ambarzumjan and Jordan Monosky started off doubles action in Newberry’s favor with the 8-1 win in the No. 2 slot. The pair of Angel Pizarro and Nikhil Mannepalli followed the performance with the 8-4 decision in the first flight, while No. 3 Jose Navarro and Alex Amble capped off the sweep with the 8-5 win.

Singles competition continued the Wolves’ winning streak with Ambarzumjan picking up the 6-1, 6-0 decision in the No. 1 spot. Pizarro was able to secure the Wolves’ win with a 6-1, 6-1 victory in the fourth flight.

Tiffin mustered back-to-back wins at the No. 6 and No. 2 slots before Mannepalli won a tiebreaker 6-2, 3-6, 10-6 to put Newberry up 6-2.

Amble finished off the afternoon with another tiebreaker, coming away with the 6-4, 4-6, 11-9 decision.

Newberry would 8-1 to the Bulldogs in their penultimate match in Hilton Head on Tuesday afternoon.
