WHITMIRE — The Whitmire softball team competed in the Clinton Red Devil Preseason Softball Tournament.
The Lady Wolverines got off to a good start by defeating 5A Spartanburg by a score of 20-8. Kaylynn Roche was the winning pitcher. Kymberlee Jenkins had four hits (3 2Bs).
Game 2 was a 12-1 loss to Saluda. Whitmire trailed 2-1 into the fifth inning when Saluda scored 10 times to take the victory.
Game 3 ended with a hard-fought 4-2 loss to Clinton. Caylee Ellison was two for three at the plate for Whitmire.
Game 4 was called due to time with the Wolverines dropping a 6-5 contest to Powdersville. Raegan Kendrick launched a Grand Slam for Whitmire.
The Lady Wolverines traveled to Newberry to play the Lady Bulldogs in the first regular season game of the year. The Wolverines won by a score of 13-2. The Lady Wolverines battled throughout the game.
Kimberly Kendrick pitched well and got the win. She pitched all six innings and was helped by defense. At the plate the Wolverines bats exploded for 15 hits and drew five walks. The leading hitters for the game were Michelle Ruff, Kymberlee Jenkins and Angela Cody. Ruff was four for five with four runs and four stolen bases. Jenkins was two for three with two runs scored, two sacrifices and four RBIs. Cody was three for four with three runs scored and two stolen bases.
