MARS HILL, N.C. — Every Newberry player won out in the Wolves 9-0 sweep over Mars Hill in their first South Atlantic Conference matchup of the spring season.

No. 1 Amanda Carrillo and Marta Gomar started off doubles play with an 8-5 victory. The Wolves continued to dominate with No. 2 Elisa Aguirre and Lucia Davila taking an 8-1 decision, while No. 3 Rebeca Martinez and Joelle Husle rounded out the win column 8-0.

Newberry would hold the 3-0 advantage heading into singles competition.

The Wolves would see six straight victories in singles action leading off with No. 1 Carrillo taking the 6-2, 6-3 win. No. 2 Aguirre would follow up Carrillo’s performance with her own 7-5, 7-5 decision, while No. 3 Gomar would make it three straight with a tight 8-7, 7-5 thriller.

No. 4 Davila managed to keep the streak alive with a 6-3, 6-3 win, while No. 5 Martinez and No. 6 Hulse swept their opponents 6-0, 6-0 and 8-0.

The win marked the third consecutive sweep for the Wolves this spring season.
