DUE WEST — Alexander Hahn picked up his first collegiate win of the season in a three-set decision 6-4, 4-6, 10-7 as the Wolves defeated Erskine 7-2 Thursday afternoon.

No. 1 Edison Ambarzumjan and Jose Navarro cruised to the 8-1 decision to begin doubles play in the Wolves favor. The No. 2 pair of Jordan Monosky and Angel Pizarro beat out their Erskine counterparts 8-2 to boost Newberry’s lead to 2-0 in doubles.

Despite dropping the final match in doubles action, Newberry built upon their 2-1 lead in singles competition.

No. 1 Ambarzumjan began singles play with a quick 6-0 victory to put the Wolves up 3-2. Erskine would pick up the next match to move back within one, 3-2, but that would be the Flying Fleet’s only decision during singles.

The Wolves would pick up four consecutive wins from No. 3 Pizarro (6-1, 7-5), No. 4 Monosky (6-1, 2-0) and No. 5 Alex Amble (6-4, 6-1), with Hahn rounding out the win with his three-set decision.
