Newberry routes Emmanuel 15-7

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. — On the road for the third consecutive game, the Wolves came out with the mindset to get a win, and that, they did. Newberry went on to dominate the Lions of Emmanuel College, 15-7 in Franklin Springs.

Both teams would come out the gate slowly, going scoreless for the first eight minutes of the Contest. Emmanuel (0-3) would be the first team to jump on the board, but Jeremy Ross had other plans. He would give Newberry their first points of the game, and start the momentum that stayed constant throughout the contest. Not even two minutes later, Stone Boone would connect with the goal and give the Wolves the 2-1 edge at the end of the first period.

In the second period, Ross would keep Newberry ahead with a goal just after the start of the period. The next two goals for the Wolves would come from Canada native Matt Cromie, who ended the game with five goals. Cromie would see all but two of his 11 shots be on frame.

With time dwindling in the second period, the Wolves would launch off two wide shots before Zach Jones connected for his lone goal of the game. The Lions would try to answer back in the third period, but Newberry’s pressure and grit would cause Emmanuel to turn the ball over four times. Newberry outscored the Lions’ 6-2 in the third period, with 12 shots being on frame.

Ross notched four goals and 15 shots on the night. Boone followed suit and tallied three goals of his own and launched off nine shots. With Emmanuel’s deficient offense, goalie Erick Szurley had an easy night and ended with five saves.

Newberry lit up the stat sheet in several statistical categories. The team outshot Emmanuel 60-19, and recorded 63% of their shots on goal. The Wolves forced the Lions’ to make 23 saves on the night.
