NEWBERRY — Morgan Powers picked up her first collegiate win in a three-set decision (6-1, 0-6, 10-4) as the Wolves posted their second sweep of the weekend with a 9-0 victory over Columbia College.

Newberry once again got off to a hot start with a dominant performance in doubles play Sunday afternoon. No. 1 Amanda Carrillo and Marta Gomar had an 8-1 win to jump out to an early 1-0 lead. Their victory was followed up with consecutive 8-0 decisions from No. 2 Elisa Aguirre and Lucia Davila, and No. 3 Rebeca Martinez and Joelle Husle.

The Wolves held the 3-0 edge heading into singles competition, one they would not relinquish for the remainder of the match.

No. 1 Carrillo and No. 2 Aguirre began singles action with 6-2, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-0 wins, respectively. A trio of Wolves – No. 3 Davila, No. 4 Martinez, and No. 5 Husle – each swept their counterparts with 6-0, 6-0 decisions. Powers rounded out the sweep with her three-set victory.

The Wolves also picked up the win Saturday against Limestone 9-0.
