NEWBERRY — With a home playoff environment a Newberry High School boys basketball team had not seen in four years…the Bulldogs saw their season come to an end Friday night with a 76-62 second round playoff loss to Chester.

The Cyclones blew their way to an early six-point lead after the first quarter…and extended that lead to 11 points at the break…41-30.

Newberry, however, started the second half on a 13-to-two run to notch the score up at 43 points apiece.

At the end of the third quarter, Newberry only trailed by a mere basket…51-49.

The Bulldogs were only held to three field shots in the entire fourth quarter…while Chester hit eight in the same time frame…as the Cyclones ended the night with 32 field shots…compared to Newberry’s 22.

Nick Paul led the Newberry team with 15 points, while Terrell Rogers and Tyriq Goodman also ended the night in double digits with 12 and 11 points respectively.

Meanwhile, Kajuan Wise scored eight points, Zay Chalmers (five), Tramas Ruff (three), while the Newberry scoring ended with the two points apiece of Pat Paul, Darius Stephens-York, Ahmad Willis, Zymere Epps and Tyreese Cromer.

The following Newberry High seniors were members of the team: Pat Paul, Jaleel Gilliam, Tramas Sims-Ruff, Darius Stephens-York, Terrell Rogers and Tyriq Goodman.
