Newberry finishes ninth at Barton Invitational

KIAWAH ISLAND — The four Wolves in attendance all finished within four strokes of each other on the day, with Johana Lunackova surging into the team lead with a birdie on her final hole to finish with a 79. She and Nabila Inak tied for 20th overall at 16 over for the tournament.

Inak finished tied for first among all competitors at one over on par four holes. She also carded four birdies throughout the tournament to rank among the event leaders.

Inak and Lunackova finished 12 shots behind Madison Corley of UNC Pembroke, who won the tournament at four strokes over par after a playoff hole against Dominika Czudkova of Lincoln Memorial. Florida Southern took home the team championship with a tournament-low 306 in the second round, finishing three shots ahead of Wingate at 43 over for the tournament after ending the first round deadlocked with the Bulldogs.

Taylor Lance finished in a tie for 39th place with a second-round 81, four strokes better than her Saturday score. Aubrey Guyton improved by five shots, firing an 83 and finishing in a tie for 55th.

Newberry was one of eight South Atlantic Conference schools in attendance, finishing six shots up on Queens and 20 strokes ahead of Catawba in the final standings.

The Wolves finished ninth among 16 schools in attendance at 81 shots over par.
