NEWBERRY – Senior Nolan Whitely has been named the Wrestler of the Month by the Eastern College Athletic Conference after recording a 9-0 record in the month January. This marks the second consecutive month a Newberry wrestler has won the honor.

Whitely comes in at fourth at 133 lbs. in the latest Super Region 2 rankings. The Wheeling Jesuit transfer recorded a 3-0 record at the Tracy Borah Duals. His day included two major decision wins over opponents from Colorado Mesa and 17th-ranked Western State Colorado. Whitely notched a crucial 3-2 decision over Patrick Vega of New Mexico Highlands to even the team points.

Whitely showed up both of his opponents in the conference matchups between Limestone and Belmont Abbey. Whitely continued his streak at the Midwest Region Duals giving the Wolves their first team point against Tiffin. He secured a win by tech fall 18-2 over Richetshaye Puente of Tiffin. He had a strong showing in the first, including three takedowns and two consecutive four-nearfalls.

In day two of the Midwest Region Duals, he secured a tight 10-9 win against Lake Erie’s Forrest Glogouski. He then beat out Jerry Fenner III of fourth-ranked Ashland in a 5-3 decision. He would conclude his day in a thriller where he would pick up the win in overtime over Findlay’s Mike Stewart. Whitely has now won the last nine matches that he has competed in.
