BRISTOL, TENN. — The Wolves accumulated three wins by fall to elevate them 30-13 over the Tornado of King University in an Eastern College Athletic Conference matchup.

The 13th-ranked Wolves (10-5, 3-0 ECAC) won six of the 10 matchups on the evening, including two decisions, three falls and one forfeit. This performance gave Newberry its third ECAC victory after dominating Limestone 30-16 last Tuesday in Eleazer Arena.

At 125 pounds, Austin Neal has proved to be the man of many comebacks, taking down his opponent 10-5. In the first, he found himself down 4-1, but like times before, the sophomore out of Rutherfordton, N.C. fought his way back into the contest. Neal was able to narrow the lead down to 4-3 after releasing himself from the grasp of Reed Jacks. In a sequence that consisted of a takedown, four nearfall, and a penalty point, Neal was able to seize the win.

Nolan Whitely, the current ECAC Wrestler of the Month, took down fourth-ranked Dustin Kirk in a 3-2 decision. Going scoreless in the first two periods, escapes by both wrestler had them in a head-to-head battle for the win in the dwindling minutes. Whitely downed Kirk with 42 seconds left to take the lead 3-1. With time running down, Kirk had one more shot to take down the senior, but was not able to get the job done. Whitely has now won the last ten contest he has competed in.

Fifth-ranked Austin Palmer wasted no time during his bout with King’s Matthew Danner, completing the fall in a little over two minutes to give Newberry the 12-6 lead. Alex Rice followed in the footsteps of Palmer and took down Bailey Slattman in a hasty 28 seconds.

Nick Weldon captured six points for the Wolves with a win by fall of his own. In what was a questionable call by the fans of King, Weldon nonetheless reigned victorious taking down Elijah Seay in 1:31. Patton Gossett rounded out the win for Newberry taking the match via King forfeit.

King was headed by ninth-ranked Bryce Killian, as he downed Isaiah Royal, 4-0. Landon Goforth picked up a decision win over Tyler Wicken. Darius Rutland put up four points for the Tornado after a major decision victory over Louis Wilson. Kody Eichlin also contributed three point with a win against Austin Crocker.
