NEWBERRY — Newberry College’s men’s soccer team was honored by the United Soccer Coaches with the Team Academic Award for the 2016-17 school year.

The men’s team, led by head coach Bryce Cooper, captured its third consecutive overall team academic award. The Wolves posted a 3.37 overall team grade-point average last year.

Newberry had 15 players earn SAC Commissioner’s Honor Roll following the spring semester. The Wolves are one of 295 men’s teams across all three NCAA divisions to earn this distinction. Newberry join Lincoln Memorial, Coker and Anderson as South Atlantic Conference programs who are recipients of this award.

The Team Academic Award was created to recognize student athletes’ commitment to excellence in the classroom. For a team to be considered for the NSCAA Team Academic Award, it must have a composite team grade point average of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) for all team members.

A total of 841 collegiate teams earned the Team Academic Award.
