NEWBERRY — The Newberry Wolves men’s lacrosse team will be holding a golf tournament to benefit the inaugural team of student-athletes in preparation for their first season.
The tournament will be held at Newberry Country Club on Nov. 4.
Individual golfers can register to play for $150, while foursomes can sign up for $500. Five different sponsorship packages are also available. Registration will begin at 10:30 a.m. with participants teeing off at noon. A dinner and awards ceremony will be held at 5:30 p.m. A full schedule, along with information and registration information, can be found here.
Head coach Nick Cotter will serve as the program’s first head coach. Cotter had a impressive collegiate playing career as a three-time All-American at Dowling College that led the Golden Lions to their first-ever Division II national title game appearance in 2006.
He spent the last three seasons as an assistant coach at Saint Leo University in Florida, where he helped the 2016 Lions to a 9-5 overall record and a final ranking just outside the top 20 in the coaches’ poll.
Alongside Cotter is newly hired assistant coach Joe Wilson. Wilson comes to Newberry after serving as volunteer assistant coach at Mount St. Mary’s. During his stint with the Mountaineers, he worked with the defense, goalies and the face off units.
If you are not able to attend the tournament, please consider a donation to the program. The intrasquad (Scarlet vs. Gray) scrimmage is set for Nov. 5 at 7 a.m. at Setzler Field. The Wolves will begin their inaugural season at Montevallo on Feb. 8, 2018.
Newberry will take the field at Smith Road Complex on Feb. 20 to take on Roberts Wesleyan at 2 p.m.
