WHITMIRE — The Whitmire High School Wolverines returned home this weekend after suffering a 62-6 loss to the Lewisville High School Lions.
Despite the team’s loss, Head Coach Charlie Jenkins said that the Wolverines played hard.
“I know the score doesn’t look good, but I feel 10 times better than I did this time last week. We played very hard against a really good team and we played inspired until the very last play. There were so many bright spots. Looking forward to homecoming next week vs. Branchville,” he said.
The Lions were able to get on the board first, but the Wolverines responded with a fumble and a recovery for a touchdown thanks to Alan Michael Stanley. The Lions continued their touchdown success throughout the night. Earning 24 points in the first quarter, 14 in the second, six in the third and 18 in the fourth.
Now that the Wolverines have returned home, Jenkins is looking toward the weeks ahead.
“We now have six games ahead of us against teams that are closer to our size. We have weathered the storm of an extremely tough early season. I am excited about the weeks to come,” he said.
