NEWBERRY — The Newberry Wolves volleyball team is predicted to finish sixth in the South Atlantic Conference this season, according to the annual preseason coaches poll.

Defending champion Wingate garnered the first-place spot with 10 first-place votes and 100 points overall. Lincoln Memorial ranked second with 81 points, and Anderson finished third with one first-place vote and 76 points. Newberry moved up three spots from last year’s preseason poll and finished with 61 points, only four points behind fifth place Lenoir-Rhyne.

The Wolves finished last season 20-12 overall record while going 16-6 in the conference. Highlights of last season included an eight-game win streak and an upset win at home against No. 23 Wingate. The 20 wins were Newberry’s most since becoming an NCAA institution.

Newberry begins the season on Sept. 1 at noon against UNC Pembroke in the Eleazer Arena as part of the Newberry College Invitational Match.
