NEWBERRY — Junior kicker Shea Rodgers has been named to the Fred Mitchell Award watch list for the 2017 season.
The award is given to a Division I FCS, Division II, Division III, NAIA, or NJCAA kicker who displays excellence on the field and participates in community service. Matt Davis of UNC Pembroke was the 2016 recipient.
Rodgers is one of 36 kickers named to the watch list, including 12 from Division II and three from the Southeast Region. Rodgers is the only South Atlantic Conference kicker on the list. He joins Wofford’s David Marvin as the only kickers from South Carolina schools to be listed.
Rodgers was Newberry’s leading scorer in 2016, going 42-for-48 on PAT attempts and 5-for-5 on field goals. He was named preseason second team all-South Atlantic Conference last month.
