NEWBERRY — Tori Caldwell scored on a walk-off wild pitch to give Newberry a 6-5 win in game one against No. 15 Lenoir-Rhyne before falling 11-0 in game two Wednesday afternoon at the Smith Road Complex.

Newberry (22-11, 5-3 SAC) trailed Lenoir-Rhyne (31-8, 5-3 SAC) 5-3 heading into the bottom of the seventh and loaded the bases with only one out. Haley Wildes entered as a pinch hitter and reached on an error that plated Chesley Cunningham.

After the Wolves were down to their last out, Christina Linton drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the game at 5-5. During Natalie Willis’ at-bat, the Lenoir-Rhyne pitcher threw a pitch that got behind the catcher, allowing Caldwell to score easily from third base, giving Newberry a 6-5 walk-off victory.

Willis and Myranda Dills both recorded two hits apiece for Newberry, while Linton notched a pair of RBIs. Dills and Rachel Marion also collected an RBI apiece. The Wolves tallied nine walks as a team in the opener.

Devon Morrison tossed a complete-game to pick up her 13th victory of the season in the circle.

Newberry scored on a pair of RBI singles in the second and third innings to grab an early 2-0 lead. Marion was successful in her suicide squeeze attempt in the bottom of the fifth, plating another Newberry run.

Lenoir-Rhyne scored three runs in the second inning of game two and never looked back, winning 11-0 in five innings.

Willis, Haley Simonds, Daphne Peyton and Wildes all notched a hit for the Wolves in the nightcap. Emily Marchbanks took the loss after pitching 4.0 innings.

Sydney Miller recorded the win for Lenoir-Rhyne in the circle. Erin Boone led the Bears at the plate, notching two hits and four RBIs.

Newberry will travel to Carson-Newman (29-7, 8-0 SAC) on Saturday. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
