SUMTER — For a third straight season, the Newberry High School Lady Bulldogs won at least eight games before Jan. 1 after taking second place honors last week at a tournament held in Sumter.

Newberry pulled out two victories on Tuesday, the first being a 62-53 victory over Crestwood. Kelsey Felks scored 27 points, Nigeria Davis had 18, followed by Rayanna Davis’ nine points. Also, Zacharia Epps scored six points while Lindsey Ruff scored two.

Their afternoon concluded on Tuesday with a 68-48 victory over Lee Central. Nigeria Davis scored 17 points, Rayanna Davis finished with 16, and Felks scored 13.

Diamond Davis scored eight points, Rehgan Miller (6), Epps and Kelsey Havird had three points apiece, while the Newberry scoring ended with the two points of Ruff.

Newberry advanced to the championship round after a 59-42 victory over Manning on Wednesday.

Rayanna Davis scored 21 points, Felks(17), Nigeria Davis (15), as the Newberry scoring ended with the three points apiece of Havird and Epps.

Newberry fell in the championship game 63-54 on Thursday to 5A Spring Valley.

Nigeria Davis led the Newberry scoring with 18 points, Felks (12), Rayanna Davis (11), Miller (9), and Epps had four points.

Newberry (8-2) will entertain Ninety Six on Tuesday.
