MONTEVALLO, Ala. — The Newberry men’s cross country team finished 20th overall in the NCAA DII Southeast Regional Cross Country Championships on Saturday morning.

The University of Montevallo was the host for the 10k distance race.

Newberry finished with 558 points ahead of South Atlantic Conference opponent Tusculum, Francis Marion, Pfeiffer, and Belmont Abbey. The Wolves were edged by SAC opponents Carson-Newman and Catawba who took the two spots ahead of Newberry.

Junior Charlie Cook led the way for the Wolves with an overall finish of 101 ending with a time 34:16.41.

Caleb Bouwkamp came in second for Newberry recording a time 34:26.19. Shelton Reynolds (34:50.51), Jorge Hernandez (35:32.66) and Quinn Wilson (35:46.42) rounded out the top five runners for Newberry.

Also competing in the Championships were freshman Mondricous Hatton finishing with a time of 38:03.26 and senior Connor Roudabush at 37:27.53.

Mount Olive came in with a first place finish with 57 points, finishing 20 points ahead of Mars Hill who won the South Atlantic Conference Championships a couple weeks ago.
