NEWBERRY — Ronell Crockett, a transfer from Spartanburg Methodist College, has been added to the 2015-16 Newberry College Wolves basketball roster.
Head men’s basketball coach Dave Davis made the announcement.
“Ronell was with us this past year as a redshirt and has done an incredible job preparing to play and an even better job in the classroom,” said Davis. “He is on track to graduate most importantly and he is hungry to get an opportunity to prove himself at Newberry. Ronell can play any position and brings the attitude, work ethic and talent we need to make the next step as a program.”
Crockett was named an NJCAA honorable mention All-American in 2013 after leading SMC to the No. 1 national ranking and a 35-1 record, winning the regular season and tournament Region X championships and advancing to the NJCAA National Tournament’s Final Four before losing for the first time all season.
Crockett was named to the first team All-Region X team as a sophomore and was the runner-up for Player of the Year in the region. He averaged over 14 points per game. Ronell was also named to the NJCAA All-National Tournament team as a sophomore.
As a freshman, Crockett also led Spartanburg Methodist to the NJCAA National Tournament and averaged 18.3 points and 13.3 rebounds per game. The two year record for Spartanburg Methodist with Crockett on the team was 64-8.
“Ronell is one of the best players to come through Spartanburg Methodist College,” said SMC head coach Jeff Brookman. “He is one of the hardest working players that I have coached and has an unbelievable will to win. Ronell is not only a great player, but he is also a great young man. I look forward to following him this coming year at Newberry.”
