Now that’s a Clean Toy

Play-Doh was originally wallpaper cleaner. In 1933, Cleo McVicker, an employee of the Cincinnati-based Kutol Products soap company, negotiated a contract with Kroger grocery stores to manufacture ready-made wallpaper cleaner that could remove coal residue from wallpaper.

Although they had never made wallpaper cleaner before, Cleo and his brother Noah developed a non-toxic, malleable clay-like compound made of water, salt, and flower. The product kept the company afloat and successful for another 20 years. Wallpaper cleaner sales began to plummet, and a relative of the McVickers, a school teacher, first used the product as a play object. The rest is history.

How Many SEALS does it Take

Seal Team Six, a special forces counter-terrorist unit, was formed in November 1980, after the failed mission to end the Iran hostage crisis in 1979. Although it was just the third Navy SEAL team, Richard Marcinko, Unit’s 1st commander, named it SEAL Team Six to confuse Soviet Intelligence about the number of actual SEAL teams in existence.

“Unplanned” Movie is a box office hit and is saving Lives

Unplanned is a motion picture based on the book by Abby Johnson, a former Planned Parenthood employee, who became a pro-life activist after watching an ultrasound of a baby trying to escape the abortionist’s suction equipment before being sucked off screen. Unplanned has been hugely successful, despite the efforts of the media and tech giants Twitter and Google that thwart its effectiveness. Google refused to take any advertisement for the film and classified is as “propaganda.” Twitter suspended the movie’s account, erasing 50,000 followers shortly after the film debuted. A spokesperson for Twitter later claimed it was a mistake. Despite all of this, the movie has remained in the top five at the box office and is both making money and saving the lives of unborn children.

A Sweet Tradition

The U.S. Senate is steeped in traditions. Some; however, are more light-hearted than others. One such tradition began in 1965 with the so-called “Candy Desk.” Senator George Murphy of Calif. Originated the practice of keeping a supply of candy in his desk for the enjoyment of fellow senators. In every Congress since, a candy desk has been located in the back row of the Republican side of the chamber. The desk’s current occupant is Pennsylvania Sen. Pat Toomey.

Finally

Comedian Henny Youngman once said, “A woman sees her husband standing on the bathroom scale, sucking in his stomach. “You know that’s not going to help, right?” she asks. “Sure, it will,” he says. “It’s the only way I’ll be able to see the numbers.”
