Coretta Scott King once said, “the greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members,” and The Champions are proving just how deep that compassion flows.

Founded in 2015 from the combined visions of Brandis Agnew-Robinson and Wayne Pratt Jr., The Champions are comprised of a group of young adults whose roots are deeply embedded in the community. The Champions use the principals of Village Values to give back to a community, which has helped shape and mold the members of the organization.

On Saturday January 19, The Champions, along with Newberry City Councilman Travis Reeder, will hold a networking brunch at Community Hall in honor of the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Tickets are currently on sale and can be purchased from any Champion committee member, or by visiting (www.eventbrite.com/o/the-champions-amp-travis-reeder-18045345342?fbclid=IwAR1XeEkhRzPp701Y0tRru7lnkP9BLxj5fC_PquiONUlCSHRGooh-HAhr-i4).

A parade will be held that following Sunday, January 20, beginning at 3 p.m. on Main Street downtown Newberry. Registration for the parade is now closed, but all spectators are encouraged to come out. Future events from The Champions include the Fourth Annual Champions Gala benefiting Newberry County Relay for Life, which will be held Saturday, April 6 at Newberry College. Tickets for the Gala go on sale later this month and can also be purchased from any Champions Committee member. The annual Back to School Bash and Holiday Dinner will be held later this year with further details to come.
