Hopefully you have taken part in one of the Grow Newberry Farmers Markets days that we are hosting each Saturday during June and July. Memorial Park in downtown Newberry from 9:00 until 11:30 a.m. is the place to find local growers and crafters who are present with produce, eggs, baked goods, boiled peanuts, plants and flowers, arts and crafts, soaps, and meats on select dates. If you want to be a vendor, contact us for available space. Sometimes, our home gardens are so fruitful that we are not sure what to do with the extras, and the Market offers a “backyard gardeners” section for these occasions. Bring your card table, sale items, and $5 for a space. We want to thank AgSouth for providing a grant to help with advertising this year for the Grow Newberry Farmers Market. The Market will have expanded hours the weekend of the Ag + Art Tour. On Saturday, June 23, the Market will be open from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. and on Sunday, June 24, the Market will be open from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m.
In addition to the expanded Farmers Market hours, the Ag +Art Tour weekend will showcase five farms around the county: Bowers Farm, Carolina Pride Pastures, Hendrix Farm/Do-Si-Jo’s, Rodgers Heirlooms, and West Ridge Farms. Each location will give visitors a glimpse into how their farm operates and feature local artists showcasing their work and/or providing demonstrations of their craft. There will also be five ancillary sites: Carter and Holmes Orchids, Enoree River Winery, Lever Farms, Mayer Dairy Farm, and Po Dunk Holler Artisans and Antiques. The primary difference in the two groups are that the latter sites will offer varying hours from the regular Tour hours. To showcase some of the produce and meats grown right here in the county, we will hold a Farm to Table Dinner on June 21 at The PD Johnson Farm in Newberry. Tickets are on sale for $75 and are limited to 100, so contact us to reserve your spot. We look forward to hosting these events to introduce residents and visitors to a few of the agricultural offerings of our county.
