What happened with the Chamber in May?

We welcomed the following new members during May:

Dunbar Auto Supply

Lake Murray Properties

During May, the Leadership Newberry County Class explored ART: Arts, Recreation, and Tourism throughout Newberry County. We learned about recreation opportunities at Sumter National Forest, the local trails maintained in part by the Palmetto Conservation Foundation, and City of Newberry parks programs. We explored arts at the Newberry Opera House, the Ritz Theater, the Newberry Arts Center and toured the Old Newberry Hotel. We explored tourism with a presentation regarding the Newberry Museum and a tour of Carter & Holmes Orchids.

The Newberry County Young Professionals’ inaugural Legacy Gala was held on May 11. A sold out crowd enjoyed glitz and glamour for the evening.

Mosquito Authority hosted Business After Hours on May 24. In spite of rainy weather, attendees enjoyed this evening of food, beverages, and networking.

The Grow Newberry Farmers Market began Saturday and will continue each Saturday in June and July in Memorial Park from 9:00 until 11:30 a.m. There will be expanded hours during the Ag + Art weekend. We are also scheduling one non-profit per week so they can hold a bake-sale or other fundraiser for their missions. Contact the Chamber for vendor and sponsorship information.

We look forward to the following events:

Half Full Coffee & Wine and WKDK will host the June 13 Business After Hours at Half Full in downtown Newberry from 5:30-7:00 p.m. Come out and enjoy great food, beverages, and networking.

For the second year, along with the Greater Chapin Chamber, we are hosting a Business Expo for those businesses who offer their services and supports in the Newberry and/or Chapin area. There is a vendor fee for the businesses, but free for attendees to come out and meet the people behind the business name. The event will be held at the Mid-Carolina Club on June 14 from 5:30 until 7:00 p.m.

The South Carolina Ag + Art Tour dates have been set. Newberry County will participate on June 23 and 24, with a kick-off Farm to Table Dinner on June 21 at the PD Johnson Farm. Explore the farm sites West Ridge Farms, Carolina Pride Pastures, Do-Si-Jo’s Corn Maze, Grow Newberry Farmers Market, Bowers Farm and Rodgers Heirlooms. Visitors can also visit several ancillary sites-Enoree River Winery LLC, Lever Farms, Po Dunk Holler Artisans and Antiques, Carter & Holmes Orchids and Mayer Dairy Farm. Details can be found on our website newberrycountychamber.com. Contact us at 803-276-4274 for tickets to the Farm to Table Dinner.

We are excited about the $1,000 scholarship we are offering to a graduating Newberry County high school senior going into the arts or agriculture. Contact us for details.
