Look back on a fantastic April

We welcomed the following new members during April:

Grace Caregivers, LLC

Countybank

Randy’s Services

Newberry Yoga LLC

The third Annual Senior Expo was held on April 4 in the Newberry Academy gym. Co-hosted by Brook Health Care, Medical Services of America, and the Newberry County Chamber of Commerce, we were able to present information about services and supports available for our aging seniors, their caregivers, and anyone else in the community interested.

The April Business After Hours was sponsored by Whitaker Floor Coverings and hosted at Newberry College’s Smith Road Complex during the Wolves baseball team’s game. Mike Meadow, board member of the Chamber, threw out the first pitch.

On April 19, Scott Bellows cut the ribbon and held a Grand Opening at his business Palmetto Commerce International, Inc. located behind Oakland Mill Apartments. They take textiles that are no longer suitable for reuse and recycle them as industrial cleaning cloths (rags, wipers).

During April, the Leadership Newberry County class explored agriculture. We started off the day with breakfast on the farm at Lever Farm where we picked strawberries and learned about their farming ventures. At Carolina Pride Pastures we learned about the alpacas. Seztler Farms was our next stop where we learned about the poultry farm process and the beef cattle. Satterwhite Dairy was our next stop where we learned about dairy cattle and their state-of-the art milking process.

After lunch at Enoree River Winery, we learned about the wine-making process, and Bee Trail Farm taught us about beekeeping.

Leadership class members Brenda Williams from Newberry County Memorial Hospital, Ken McBride from Newberry County Department of Social Services, and Mary Alex Kopp from the City of Newberry Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Department were on WKDK’s coffee hour with Andy Hawkins to discuss their experience in the class.

Scott and Cathy Cain hosted the Newberry County Young Professionals’ Membership Meeting and Social.

The Chamber and Wilson Tractor hosted the Beer Wagon at the City of Newberry’s Pork in the Park event. Board members Austin Willingham and Mattie Dillon, and Newberry County Coalition on Underage Drinking volunteer Andrew Wigger and Coordinator Terecia Wilson were a few of the many volunteers who helped.

We look forward to the following events:

The Newberry County Young Professionals will host their monthly Civic Engagement Gathering on May 3 at 7:00 p.m. at Half Full, at 1402 Main Street in downtown Newberry. Join them to discuss ways to get involved in your community.

The Newberry County Young Professionals’ inaugural Legacy Gala is coming up on May 11. It will be an evening to celebrate Newberry’s current and future community leaders. This event is open to ALL ages, so be sure to come out and enjoy this evening of entertainment and glamour.

The Newberry Opera House and Chamber will co-host an information session for the first upcoming “Newberry On Board” workshop. The workshop will be held this summer and further educate those already in leadership roles on boards, associations, and commissions and to introduce others to the roles and responsibilities of such positions. We welcome you to join us on May 17 from 5-6:30 p.m. in the Newberry Opera House lobby to learn more about this effort to educate the public on good governance and best practices.

Business After Hours will take place Thursday, May 24 from 5:30-7:00 p.m. Mosquito Authority is sponsoring this event at the Newberry Firehouse Conference Center in downtown Newberry. Join us at 1227 McKibben Street to enjoy this evening of food, beverages, and networking.
