Visitors enjoyed their Newberry experience

Last Monday’s total eclipse was certainly a sight to behold. In last week’s article, I described my excitement about the neat events and activities offered to our visitors and residents and how so many people had come together to make it possible.

This week, I’m blown away with how the event played out and even more amazed with the actual eclipse, and I’m certainly not in the minority based on feedback. Liz and I have responded to phone calls, emails, and read Facebook posts from visitors who wanted us to know how much they enjoyed our town, its people, and the activities they were able to enjoy. I understand that similar sentiments have been shared with other organizations as well.

A couple of examples:

From Marilyn and John in North Carolina: “Thank you for welcoming everyone to your charming town August 21st for the solar eclipse. My husband and I drove from Oak Ridge, North Carolina to Newberry and were delighted with the festive atmosphere, welcoming nature and organized activities. It truly made for an amazing day and of course the eclipse was absolutely spectacular!”

From Joy in New Jersey: “My family and I attended your Eclipsefest this past Monday and we all wanted to say THANK YOU for your hospitality! What a nice town you have! We had a wonderful time! We were all impressed by free parking and organization (we’re from NJ where nothing is free). The band was an especially good idea and the narrator was very helpful. Kudos for a job well done!”

In a time when negativity tends to abound and the positives get lost in the shuffle, Newberry’s EclipseFest brought out the best in talent, volunteerism, and customer service; none of which went unnoticed. I’m proud to call this community home and am happy to share it with our many visitors.
