LAKE MURRAY — The Newberry County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help to identify a woman who was found in Lake Murray near Macedonia Lutheran Church early this morning.

Sheriff Lee Foster said in a statement that the woman was found at 7:18 a.m. by a resident on Songbird Lane.

The victim is described as a white female, in her late 60’s or 70’s. She is approximately 5 feet, 5 inches tall and weighs approximately 120 pounds.

“While we are awaiting the results of an autopsy, we do not believe she was in the water for a long time,” Foster said. “She was dressed in a nice swim suit as if she had gone for a swim or riding on a watercraft.”

She has white hair that has been dyed with a reddish tint. She was wearing a one piece bathing suit with black bottoms and a printed blue top.

In addition, the victim had a Band-Aid on her upper left arm, similar to one a person would get if they had just received an injection.

The SC Department of Natural Resources, Newberry County Water Rescue and the Sheriff’s Office checked the area and could not find an abandoned watercraft or anyone with any information.

Anyone with information should contact the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office at 803-321-2222.
