NEWBERRY – The City of Newberry is removing a mature willow oak in Memorial Park following recommendations from multiple certified arborists who determined the tree has declined to a condition where removal is the safest course of action.
“We understand the importance of Memorial Park and the role its trees play in the beauty and character of our community,” said City Manager Jason Taylor. “The city is committed to preserving Newberry’s urban tree canopy whenever possible, but we also have a responsibility to address trees that have become a safety concern.”
Following the removal, Taylor said the city will develop a plan for an appropriate replacement, so this prominent area of the park continues to serve residents and visitors for years to come.
“We appreciate the community’s understanding as we work to keep Memorial Park both safe and beautiful,” he said.
