NEWBERRY — Through grant funds from Keep America Beautiful to celebrate the Nations 250th birthday, Keep Newberry County Beautiful, a division of the Newberry Soil and Water Conservation District implemented “Liberty Gardens” at four local elementary schools. Whitmire Community School, Ruebens Elementary, Prosperity Rikard Elementary and Gallman Elementary received Raised Bed planters.
Students from each school helped to fill and plant red, white and blue annuals, perennials and native species for our pollinator friends.
At Ruebens school, Mayor Richardson from Silverstreet was on hand to celebrate the completion. History teacher Mr. Bell gave an outstanding speech the whole student body honoring the 250th anniversary of United States.
At Whitmire School, Beta Club students did heavy lifting to fill the and plant the garden bed. Elementary students performed “America the Beautiful”. School board member Mr. Ike Bledsoe was on hand for the celebration.
At Prosperity Rikard school, Mrs. Waites’ adorable Pre -K class helped to complete installation of the garden. Their groundbreaking ceremony students pledged allegiance to the flag.
At Gallman school, students from 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade filled and planted flowers. Ms. Holmes from Newberry City Council and Veteran along with teachers and administration were on hand to celebrate the 250th anniversary.
Signs commemorating the 250th Nation’s birthday and recognizing our sponsors for the “Liberty Gardens” were placed at each school.
