NEWBERRY — New author (and former Newberry Electric Cooperative VP of Member, Public & Government Relations) Debra S. Shaw recently released her debut book “Taking the Broken Pieces to the Cross” on August 17. Shaw held a book signing at the Newberry Hotel on August 23 to celebrate the release.
Deborah R. Brandon, Founder and Owner of Milk Ministries Publications Global Network, who also served as local editor, said “In this inspiring book, Debra S. Shaw shares her powerful testimony of faith, resilience, and redemption. Through the lens of her deep personal relationship with God, she reveals how His grace empowered her to rise above life’s hardships and become an overcomer. With transparency and courage, she recounts her childhood experiences—witnessing her mother endure domestic violence and watching both of her parents overcome the grip of alcoholism. Her story is a testament to God’s power to heal, restore, and transform lives for His glory.”
Shaw gives all praise, glory, and honor to God for carrying her through life’s fire. “What the enemy meant for harm, God turned into purpose,” she says. “He took my mess and transformed it into a message, giving me beauty for ashes, (Isaiah 61:3).”
Her prayer for the book is simple. “That this book will reach the hands of those who need it most. If it helps even one person draw closer to God-or encourages someone walking through alcoholic parents, divorce, domestic violence, hopelessness, fear, or anxiety—then every tear, every battle, and every scar will have been worth it,” she said.
Shaw extends her thanks to everyone who prayed for, loved, and supported her during the journey of writing. Though the process was difficult, Shaw’s deepest desire is that God will use her book to bring healing, hope, and the reminder that no matter what—He will always be there.
Shaw is available to speak at churches, community groups, or other gatherings upon request.

“Those who put everything in God’s hands will eventually see God’s hands in everything.” This truth is not only a quote, but the story of Shaw’s life.
