POMARIA — The town of Pomaria is still looking for a welcome sign that will greet residents and visitors alike when they come to town.

“I just do not want this to get stale, I want us to keep this on our minds,” Mayor Darryl Hentz said.

Since council began discussing a town sign, Hentz has been looking into signs and noticing other towns signs more and more. One sign he noticed in particular was the sign on S.C. 219 entering Newberry.

“Maybe we should talk to other towns, like the City of Newberry, and see where they got their signs,” he said.

Kristy Graham, town clerk-treasurer, was tasked with contacting Newberry and learning more about their signs.

In other business, the town will send money to the Law Enforcement Association for the fireworks show that was held on Saturday for the Fourth of July. Hentz said that they do this every year, and that the association does a lot for Pomaria.

The town will also send $50 to the Little Mountain Reunion for advertising.

In other finance news, the town had three receipts of money coming in from the Municipal Association of South Carolina (MASC). These receipts totaled a little over $18,000. The town also received a receipt from SCANA for $5,829.32.

In disbursements highlights, the town paid $200 to Newberry Lawncare and $63 to the South Carolina Retirement.

Other Business

• Graham mentioned the woman-less pageant that will be held Friday at 7 p.m. All proceeds from the pageant will go to the Pomaria-Garmany Archery Team.

• Billy Fanning mentioned that ditch clearing needs to take place on Rest Street. The Highway Department will be notified by the town.
