NEWBERRY — The Delta Mu Chapter of Kappa Delta Sorority at Newberry College is hosting its inaugural carnival on campus called ΚΔrnival 2016.

The March 19 event begins at 11 a.m. and ends at 2 p.m. Set up begins at 10 a.m. on Walker Field on the practice football field, across from the Alumni Music Center between MacLean Gym and Walker Hall. The carnival will consist of games, activities and prizes.

Karley Young, vice president of Community Service in Kappa Delta, said tents will be set up for the games and food by Theta Chi fraternity brothers from the college. The event will be held in MacLean Gym if it rains.

Wristband will be $5 and will allow youth to play any of the games and participate in any of the activities for free.

Snacks will be provided but drinks will cost extra. Lemonade, cotton candy, snow cones, and popcorn will be some of the options from which to choose. Food and drinks prices will range from $1 to $2.

Raffle tickets sold for $1 will be used to raffle off a gift basket or baked goods. There will be no limit on the number of tickets a parent can buy for a child.

Proceeds will be used for Kappa Delta’s philanthropy to National Prevent Child Abuse America and Prevent Child Abuse America in South Carolina.

“My position is being in charge of overseeing all of the events, the overall planning of the event and also making sure we raise a good amount of money for our philanthropy,” said Young.

Anna Grey Walters, vice president of the Delta Mu Chapter of Kappa Delta, is in charge of advertising for the event. Walters has printed fliers for dorms, made posters for hallways and banners that are outside the cafeteria.

“I’m here to help spread the word. I am doing all the advertisement for the event,” Walters said.

The event is open to anyone but the games are for youth between the ages of 2 and 13. Activities will include face painting, hair spray color, and a clown making balloon animals along with the raffle.

Games will include a prize wheel, corn hole, candy toss, basketball and football toss, go fish, throwing darts to pop balloons, ring toss, and mini golf.

“A lot of the games are being borrowed from First Baptist Church of Clinton. The church is letting the girls use the games they have at their fall festival every year,” said Allie White, a member of Kappa Delta.

Chandler Hendrix, president of Kappa Delta, is renting the games.

“The event wouldn’t be as successful without donations and contributions from the community,” said Hendrix.
