CLINTON — The Presbyterian College School of Pharmacy will host its fourth annual March on Health on March 19 with the goal of raising money for the local YMCA to supply less fortunate youth with scholarships for the Summer Youth Programs.
Four years ago, Mike Cohen, a pharmacy student at Presbyterian College, decided to organize an event to help children in Clinton remain active throughout the summer months.
The March on Health has donated $1,000 each year.
“March on Health allows the community to come together and participate in an event that directly impacts our city,” said Caleb Staggs, chairman of the event. “Children are the future and this event targets the children of Clinton. By supporting the YMCA through this event, we allow our children to participate in an organization that is known for mentoring, guiding, and maturing children through their various activities and programs.”
Staggs ran in the event its second year and quickly adopted the same vision as Cohen. He then took over as student race director.
“I love this event because everybody wins,” Staggs said. “We don’t have many races in Clinton, so this allows everybody a chance to come out and be active while raising money for the community.”
The 5k run/walk will start at 8:30 a.m. at Bailey Memorial Stadium. Registration will run from 7:15 a.m. to 8:15 a.m.
Registration prior to March 19 is $25 and registration the day of the event will be $30. Each registered participant will receive an event T-shirt. The top three overall male and female winners, as well as the top male and female from each age brackets, will receive a medal.
