LITTLE MOUNTAIN — The town of Little Mountain will be taking back The Little Mountain Reunion as requested by the Little Mountain Reunion Association.

“They need help with management and money. I told them we would be glad to help,” Mayor Jana Jayroe said. “They are basically dissolved and what money is in their account we will take over in December.”

Jayroe said they could not let the Reunion fail, and that she has already spoken with a few people about helping with a committee. Jayroe believes that between not having the Reunion for two years and the money spent for repairs in Reunion Park prior was not something the Association could overcome quickly.

Councilman Melvin Bowers suggested they try and get Newberry College back into the event, after they had been shut out in years past.

“I agree. Newberry College is a great resource and Newberry County without the college is not a good thing,” Jayroe said.

Council also discussed adding the Reunion to the town’s Facebook page, since it is a free resource. Jayroe, who runs the Facebook page, agreed to add the Reunion to the town’s page.

In other business, council held the first reading to lease the Section House and discussed repairs of the Section House.

“Because the Section House is real property owned by the town, we have to have an ordinance to rent it,” Jayroe said. “We told the renters that they cannot change the outside without talking to us, no permanent inside changes and they cannot use the fireplace.”

The new renters, who previously operated Tears of Joy in Newberry, will pay $100 a month for rent and are responsible for utilities.

Recently, council hired a company to repair the heating and air and clean out animal carcasses. Cindy Farr said they received a bill for approximately $180, but she thinks that may be the first bill with another to come.

Other business

• Council is currently working to update the town zoning ordinances. They reviewed the definitions and decided to add food trucks, market (with farmers markets and road markets underneath) and animals (including farm and domestic).
