NEWBERRY — The Newberry County Chamber of Commerce (1209 Caldwell Street, Newberry) is bringing back their annual children’s event this Sunday, the Pumpkin Painting Party.

The Pumpkin Painting Party will take place from 3-4:30 p.m. outside the Chamber, or as many may know it as the Welcome Center, on Oct. 20. The Chamber will have over 100 pumpkins to give out to children 12 and younger.

“Many thanks to Walmart for donating pumpkins to make this event possible for the last five years,” said Liz MacDonald, Chamber administrator. “This year, we were also fortunate to have other sponsors to make this possible. Thank you to Village Pawn, LIFEBRIDGE, PetCare of Newberry, Komatsu and Creative Styling Merle Norman.”

During this free event, the Chamber will provide the paint and brushes, and a snack and a drink for the little artists to enjoy.

“We decided to host a Sunday event because Sundays tend to be more family oriented,” said Michelle Long, Chamber executive director. “You’re not competing with college or high school football, just kind of a fun family afternoon. We also do it on that particular Sunday because it gives kids over a week to have their pumpkins displayed.”

Long added that this is an opportunity to introduce Downtown Newberry to some families that may not have been in a while, to see what is new.

On Sunday, all children 12 and under will be given one free pumpkin to paint during the event, with children needing to be present to get a pumpkin.

“This is one of our more popular family friendly events, we have run out of pumpkins in the past due to its popularity. I recommend getting to the party sooner rather than later,” Long said.
