NEWBERRY — Just 30 minutes a week can be the difference between whether a child advances to the next grade or even graduates on time from high school.

The Newberry County Literacy Council program is targeting elementary, Pre-K to second grade students. NCLC will provide free training workshops, tutoring materials and the support needed to help volunteer tutors supplement and enhance shared reading experiences to ignite a love of reading for elementary students.

This program was created for everyone — working professionals, retirees, former educators, college students — that can take a short break during their week to volunteer. Tutoring is scheduled during the week on Monday-Wednesday-Thursday from 3:30-4:30 p.m., depending on the school schedule.

Call 803-276-8086 or email newberrycountyli@bellsouth.net to become a volunteer tutor.
