PROSPERITY — This year, the Glenn Shealy Memorial Scholarship was awarded to the following seniors at the Mid-Carolina High School Senior awards ceremony: Kaleb Boland (son of Chad and Becky Boland), Jacob K. Shealy (son of Mark and Amy Shealy) and Lauren Shealy (daughter of Trevis and Lisa Shealy).

Kaleb Boland and Jacob Shealy will attend Clemson University in the fall, and Lauren Shealy will attend Lander University.

Glenn Shealy was the Race Director for the Little Mountain Reunion Road Races in 2014. Prior to the race, he was killed in a tractor accident on May 17, 2014. In August of that same year, the Little Mountain Reunion Association dedicated the reunion in his memory.

For the past three years, the Town of Little Mountain and Glenn Shealy’s family and friends have used the proceeds of the race to provide funding for a scholarship in his memory. They have awarded $11,400 in scholarships over that time. The scholarships are awarded to students who best exemplify some of Shealy’s characteristics: Contribution to community and/or church, lead an active/healthy lifestyle, and demonstrate a love for country/God’s creation.

The Little Mountain Reunion sponsors the Thrill of the Hill 5K and the Monadnock Challenge 10K each year during the reunion. This year it will be held on Saturday, August 3. Through the generosity of sponsors and race registrations, the race generates net funding for the scholarships. If you would like to participate in one of the races, online registration can be done through strictlyrunning.com.
