NEWBERRY — Newberry County Memorial Hospital recently presented the Medical/Surgical and Intensive Care Unit team with the DAISY Team Award.

Every quarter at NCMH nominations are taken from colleagues, peers and family members for the nurse they feel should receive the DAISY Award.

Typically presented to an individual, the Medical/Surgical and ICU team received many nominations for the award.

“We thought this was real important for us to come present the entire Medical/Surgical and ICU team with a DAISY Award for each one of you for being part of a spectacular team here at Newberry Hospital. You were nominated multiple times on multiple surveys for the exceptional care that you all provide,” said Meg Davis, chief nursing officer.

Davis added that this was a special award for every staff member and is “presented in deep appreciation for all you do, who you are and the incredibly meaningful difference your team makes in the lives of so many people.”

The team received a plaque to display along with each individual receiving a DAISY certificate and pin.

To recognize the nurses at NCMH, the DAISY Team Award was presented to the team during National Nurses Week, which recognizes nurses from all over for what they do each day.

“It’s great to recognize so many of our outstanding nurses and share this with our community, the care we are able to provide because of the nurses we have,” said Bruce Baldwin, NCMH chief executive officer.

Brenda Williams, director of NCMH Foundation/Marketing, added that while each member was recognized individually, the award itself recognizes the whole team.

“This is where an entire department has done an outstanding job and is being recognized. We receive many compliments for this area saying that our visitors and patients cannot just choose one nurse to receive the award, but every nurse is amazing,” she said.

The following individuals were recognized with the DAISY Team Award: Kay Traylor, Becky Bailey, Heather McCormack, Jessica Piersol, Karen Dial, Casey Ruff, Laura Riddle, Kimberly Smith, Pam Arrowood, Ashley Storey, Jeanne Dickert, Tami Gilliam, Faith Long, Paula Andrews, Vanessa Moran, Lauren Cotney, Brandi Pearson, Renee Arnold, Claudia Sanchez, Barbara Collins, Chelsea Ellisor, Mackenzie Boggs, Beth Fulmer, Patty Cardenas, Linda Easterling, Lindsay Brehmer, Andrena Williams, Maggi Dugan, Kathy Prather, Tina Pressley, Brenda Turner, Jeanie Chaffee, Brenda Koon, Brandi Hendrix, Susan Kinard, Pam Phillips, Betty McDuffie, Shine Ringer, Ginger Simmons, Vicki Porsga, Dianne Fowler and Ashley Lee.

The DAISY Award was established in memory of Patrick Barnes, who died at the age of 33 of the auto-immune disease ITP. The family created the international award to thank nurses worldwide for the care they give each day.
