NEWBERRY – Jeffrey O’Neal Yasmine, 34, of 137 Main Street #2 was charged with Assault and Battery of a High and Aggravated Nature on April 8.

On April 5, officers with the Newberry Police Department were dispatched to Newberry County Memorial Hospital in reference to a four-month-old child that had been assaulted. Upon arrival at NCMH, officers were met by the nurses on duty who explained what had happened to the child.

The child’s mother, who had been shopping in Walmart that evening, left the child in the car with Yasmine. The mother stated they left Walmart and went back to their residence in Whitmire and once they had arrived she noticed an injury to the child’s face when removing him from the car.

The child was transported by EMS to the emergency room at NCMH for treatment for injuries sustained to his face. He was later transported to Palmetto Health Richland Trauma Center for additional treatment.

When questioned by officers on the scene, the mother identified Yasmine, the father of the child, as the person who had assaulted the child while she was in Walmart.

Yasmine was transported to the Newberry County Detention Center. Bond was set at $50,000.
