NEWBERRY — Newberry College was host to South Carolina’s second annual Student Council Coalition(SCC) on March 15-16.

Nine high school student councils visited Newberry College for two days to learn how they can better serve their schools as student leaders. During their visit, students had half hour sessions in classrooms with different students from Newberry College. Each student spoke on subjects such as student engagement, fundraising and diversity, just to name a few.

Thursday consisted of two sessions followed by lunch and three more sessions. Afterwards students were given the opportunity to go on a tour, given by Newberry College student ambassadors. The school’s guests were also given front row seats at an event held that night, comedian Lafayette Wright. Friday consisted of two sessions followed by a free period, followed by an awards ceremony.

Newberry College’s director of Student Engagement and Greek Life, Michael Smith, said he looked forward to the college hosting the conference again in the future.

Freshman Hayley Benson, who spoke at the conference on fundraising, enjoyed getting to know the students, and even added a few on social media.
