NEWBERRY — Southeastern Grocers, parent company of BI-LO and Harveys, announced this week that they will be closing 19 stores in South Carolina, including Newberry’s Harveys. Southeastern Grocers reports that they are voluntarily filing Chapter 11 bankruptcy as part of a restructuring.

According to their website,, 94 underperforming stores will be closed in all.

Newberry’s Harveys, located at 1937 Wilson Road, converted from a BI-LO to a Harveys in 2016. An email sent out to customers this week revealed the store will prepare to close on or before April 30, but the store team will continue to deliver the quality, service and value that customers have come to expect.

The email also showed the closest Southeastern Grocers locations to Newberry, which include the BI-LO in Prosperity and the BI-LO in Chapin.
