PROSPERITY — Mid-Carolina High School senior Cade Ruff has signed to play football at Newberry College. Ruff’s main position is wide receiver.
“I live right beside Newberry College, but Newberry made me feel at home, it’s a very good family atmosphere, and they make me feel comfortable being around the coaches and coaching staff, they’ve got an awesome coaching staff. I really enjoy being around the guys, being there just feels right,” he said.
Ruff said during his time playing at Mid-Carolina, Coach Louie Alexander taught him a lot, both on and off the field.
“He taught me how to be a man, I have a lot of respect for Coach A,” he said.
Ruff said along with Alexander, he is going to miss his friends and being in the locker room and everything that goes along with football.
“Football is awesome, that is why I wanna play at the next level,” he said. “I am going right up the road, but the town of Prosperity just feels like home, and I enjoy being around home. I’ll miss all my friends at Mid-Carolina that I’ve met and grown up with.”
As well as playing football, Ruff also played baseball all four years, and basketball during his freshman and sophomore years.
Ruff is now looking forward to playing at the next level.
“I wanna gain some weight, at the next level I wanna have an impact for Newberry. I wanna have fun, I feel like high school was too short, it went by too fast. I wanna go to Newberry and just keep the football thing going,” he said.
Ruff plans on majoring in business and minoring in sports management. Ruff decided to major in business because he said there are so many things you can do in that major, and sports management is a backup plan. He added that he thought about joining a fraternity, but he’ll see once he goes there.
“I feel as good, if not better than anybody I’ve coached in 23 years, seeing Cade go off to college. He runs well, runs really good routes, got really great hands. I’m looking for him to excel at Newberry College,” Alexander said.
