NEWBERRY — Members of the S.C. House of Representatives met in Newberry recently to form the Family Caucus, the purpose of which is to protect and promote the family, family values, and the lives of the unborn.

The group includes 22 state representatives, Republicans and Democrats, who regard the family as the backbone for society, and who seek to serve as the family’s advocates in government.

“Too often today do we find that the family is under attack. I am proud to stand up for the rights of unborn babies, the rights of foster children, and family values in general,” said State Rep. Rick Martin (R-Newberry), a member of the newly-formed caucus. “While we (caucus members) may not agree on everything, every bill, or every policy, we do agree that the family deserves a significant voice at all levels of government.

“The Family Caucus allows lawmakers a vehicle for discussing our values and exchanging ideas on how to best provide for them. I would like to especially thank my dear friend, Rep. John McCravy, for all his hard work and dedication bringing the Family Caucus to life,” he added.

McCravy (R-Greenwood) was a principal founder of the Family Caucus.

“I really appreciate Rep. Martin and his wife Fran for doing so much to arrange this historic first meeting,” McCravy said. “His commitment to the unborn and family values is an encouragement to many of us in the Legislature.”
