NEWBERRY — The Newberry County School District has approved a bond resolution in an amount to exceed 8,640,000, for the issuance and sale of general obligation bonds.
“As I do this time each year, I am coming before you for the approval of a bond resolution for the issuance and sale of general obligation bonds for the repayment of our installment purpose revenue bonds, that we have issued for the improvement of our buildings within the District,” said Susan Dowd, chief financial officer of the Newberry County School District.
The bond resolution was approved after Board member Ike Bledsoe made a motion and Board member Lee Attaway seconded.
In other business, Assistant Superintendent for Operations and Administration Joey Haney gave an update on the various improvements at Little Mountain Elementary School and Newberry Elementary School. He said thanks to the Eclipse, which allowed the construction crews to get some added work in, they now just need to do a walk-through and develop any kind of punch list items, if any.
• Superintendent Jim Suber announced that due to the cancellation of the project at V.C. Summer, 17 students have withdrawn.
• The board approved the hiring of a kindergarten teacher and assistant at Newberry Elementary School due to the teacher to student ratio going above 30:1.
