COLUMBIA — 4-H will hold the seventh annual Volunteer Leaders Symposium and Ambassador Training in Columbia at Midlands Technical College – Northeast Campus on Aug. 12.
Last year, 82 adult volunteers and 37 youth attended the event. Volunteers spent the day engaged in breakout sessions of their choosing. Interactive workshops included “Empowering our Youth”, “Experiencing Nature”, “Cooking up a Healthy Life”, and more.
The Volunteer Leaders Symposium made adults more passionate about volunteering with 4-H; helped volunteers learn age-appropriate techniques for working with youth, and allowed people to network with volunteers from across the state.
Volunteers play a vital role in the ongoing growth and development of those in the 4-H Youth Development program. Nationwide, our network of over 500,000 volunteers provide caring and supportive mentoring to all 6 million 4-H’ers, helping them grow into true leaders.
Mentors are role models, educators, life coaches and friends to the 4-H youth in their communities. Every 4-H project and program involves youth collaborating with caring adult mentors where kids are encouraged to explore their interests and receive constructive, positive support. Register for the 4-H Volunteer Leaders Symposium by July 28.
Ambassadors are the youth voice of 4-H across they state. They advocate for 4-H in their local communities and represent the body of 4-H youth at larger state and regional events through leadership and project-area programs.
Register for the 4-H Ambassador Training by Aug. 1.
