PROSPERITY — The fourth annual Berry Smith Memorial Event was held April 11 in the Newberry Shores neighborhood community in Prosperity. The Fairview/O’Neal Fire Department and Lake Murray Rescue Squad were an attendance as well.

More than $7,000 was raised and a check was presented to the two departments. More than 60 Newberry Shores residents came together for a walk-a-thon, silent auction, live auction and raffle to raise money in memory of Berry Smith.

Members talked with neighbors, answered questions and share services that are available to the community. It was Berry’s wish to bring the community together and help support the local fire and rescue departments.

Donations can be mailed to the Fairview O’Neal Fire Department in memory of Berry Smith. Contact Tom Arthur at 803-730-1299 or at arthurthomasj@johndeere.com or Liz Smith at 803-422-8556 or at lizusc@gmail.com for more information.
