NEWBERRY — A skit and mock wreck scene was performed by the Newberry High School Youth Coalition on Underage Drinking ahead of prom night this weekend.

The scene was set for a night that started out like any other night, but quickly turned fatal after a teen got behind the wheel of a vehicle while intoxicated and then struck another vehicle.

Students watched as police, fire and rescue and Newberry County Coroner Laura Kneece arrived on the scene, going through the procedures to extract victims from both vehicles and taking them away on either a stretcher or in a body bag.

They also watched as a field sobriety test was performed on the “intoxicated” driver and as he was placed under arrest for driving under the influence.

Emergency responders encouraged all students to be smart this weekend as they head out to prom. They stressed that if they consume alcohol, to call a taxi service or someone they know to pick them up.
