NEWBERRY — Newberry Academy’s Junior Civitan organization installed 21 new members during a special initiation ceremony, bringing its total membership to 61. The ceremony was followed by a covered dish luncheon celebration.

New members for the 2016-17 school year are Sarah Bedenbaugh, Kylee Bramlett, William Buford, Chandler Byrom, Kailey Cheeks, Joelle Davis, Austin Gardner, James Graham, Cameron Hawkins, Allison Joyner, Alex Lin, Madison Rivers, Natashia Ruff, Jacob Salerno, Kadence Sease, Caroline Senn, Elizabeth Sligh, Raven Smith, Daja Taylor, Cassie Waites and Darius Williams.

The ceremony was held Oct. 27.

Junior Civitan is a youth service club dedicated to developing “Builders of Good Citizenship” in the home, school, community and nation.

Newberry Academy’s Junior Civitan organization works to give students in grades 7 through 12 the opportunity to develop initiative and leadership and to encourage them to live a fuller life enriched by selfless service to others, with a focus on living the “Golden Rule” in all human relationships by precept and example.

The club takes on a variety of school, community and environmental projects throughout the year, such as faculty breakfasts, Christmas basket and Give-A-Can drives, Pencils for 1st Graders, assembling lunch packs for local elementary schools and community clean-up projects through Adopt-A-Highway.
