NEWBERRY — The American Legion Post 24 and American Legion Auxiliary Unit 24 hosted a dinner to honor Palmetto Girl’s State and Boy’s State delegates with their parents on July 14.

After being introduced each delegate gave a brief summary of their week’s activities. Each one was appreciative for being chosen. Delegates thanked their sponsors and stated they learned a lot about government and made lifelong friends.

The 69th Palmetto Girl’s State Program was held at Presbyterian College and the 75th Palmetto Boy’s State Program was held at Anderson University the week of June 7. The programs are nationwide Americanism and government training programs for students who have just completed their junior year of high school.

Through participation, delegates may better understand the functioning of their government and the responsibilities they will assume when they become adults.

“The Legion looks forward each year to sponsoring young ladies and men as delegates that are truly interested in freedom of thought, speech and religion who have the ability to live and work harmoniously with others,” said Donna Lominack, chairman of the Girl’s State committee in Newberry.
